How to tell type of trans.

I have a 77 CJ7 w/ a 304 and 3 speed. The jeep originally had a 6cyl. so the vin doesn't tell me anything. How can I tell what kind of 3 speed it is? Looking to service it. What kind of fluid to use, and how do I check it. Shouldn't there be a dipstick?

The casting number on the xmsn on the drivers side should be 2603983, or2603347 and 2603357b on the top. 90 weight gear oil would be the fluid.

It's a 2603347. What kind is that. Also in the picture I added, what is the red plug on top. I removed it and it has a cylinder in it that opens up when I shift it into 3rd... Is that a vent. I found the drain plug but I'm not sure were to fill it. Is the wire the reverse switch?

It's a T150. The switch you removed has to do with the emissions system. The vent is the little button on the top right behind the shifter tower. Fill plug is on the drivers side, midway up.

I didn't see a plug on the drivers side, but I found a plug on the Pass side.
