How much money have you invested into your CJ?

hey yall.
today is day one of having my handmedown '79 cj-5
and needless to say im pretty excited to start putting in some money into it.
im 18, so i dont have much to spend on except for college stuff, so my CJ is the perfect thing to dump my time and money to.

what i want to know is how much money have you spent on your CJ?

how much do you put aside for your CJ?

have you had to put your cj build on hold because of hard times?

or have you had to put your life on hold because your CJ needed something?

this is what i need.. i guess in order of urgency.
im max pricing up to 1000 bc thats how much i earn a month lol

1. 2.5 lift to replace dumb lift blocks in front axle- about $600-$1000
2. new wheels, big ones- anywhere from $900 to $1500
3. new fuel pump- $40
4. seatbelts- $90
5. new gas cap- $20
6. mirrors- $40- $200

im looking at about 3k so far.

oh well!

Isn't that question akin to asking "what all guns do you have". The answer has the potential to bite you in the a$$!

Do you have a spring over lift? Blocks would lower your Jeep stock config.

And to answer your question... I am still in 4 figures, barely. Regearing will break that though.

I'm 35 with 3 kids at home. Just bought my cj5 March 25 and I'm up to right at 25,000 including the $5000 I paid for it...hoping to finish very soon, but so many little projects turn big and there's always more cost than what you budget...jeep lovers gotta be creative AND not cut corners...add some modern love to a 35 year old vehicle to get it another 35 years

I have spent too much just like everyone else here. Make sure you start with the maintenance and wear issues before you go all crazy with a lift and larger tires. I'm sure others will agree that there is no point in a big lift on a vehicle that's broken or you wouldn't trust on a 100 mile drive. Those seat belts are important. When I bought mine it had none and I almost fell out when going over a large bump going 60. I made it but had to put on a new pair of shorts. Make it safe and reliable then work on the pretty/upgrades.

I've had my 81 since 1988. Bought it for $1200 and have spent about $4500 on it over the years. I've saved a lot of money because I do all the fabricating and building. If I would have paid someone else to do all the things I've done to my Jeep it probably would have been close to three times over that amount of money.

Thats like asking how old a woman is. The reply is never accurate and always lower than the real figure. Nobody is ever happy with it either...
