I had a 77, Axles, dash, speedometer, brakes, all made it into my 76.

Bought my supposed 1977 last night. Waiting for the chance to crawl all over it to determine which is what and who...curious, to be sure.

'77 here, also. I know POs have done some work, prior to me. It has '79+ caliper brackets, Ford ignition, aluminum 2bbl intake, etc.... I haven't had any issues getting parts for mine.

1977 CJ7. Well, the frame and hood hinges are still original. It was all original when I bought it but that was several years ago.

Used to be a yellow 232 3 speed. Then it was a red 304 auto. Now it's a pewter LT1 700R4

I just bought a 1977 CJ7 and have already uncovered lots of "interesting" things about it; for instance, it has a YJ tub on it and the previous owner didn't know why the tail gate didn't close quite right.

I love this beauty and am looking foward to straightening out all of the wierd little things that are part of it's personality.

The '76 CJ7 I had was tuff to find specific parts for. I learned quickly to not throw anything away during the build.

Can anyone recommend the best service manual to get and how to find out things that are stock/original equipment?

They're probably off of mine. Mine now has 1986 wide tracks (rear Dana 44)...and my dash is a modified YJ, to go with the tub and hardtop.

Just my 2 cents.. I had a 77 cj5 for a while and I now own a 76 cj5. I would presume the 77 was more of an upgrade from the 76. I think the big changes were the increase in slant to the windshield, front disc brakes, and did they change to a dana 30 from a 44? not sure if I am correct there.. beyond that much was the same from what i can tell. Anyway Cheers

'77 still had the D30. I believe all CJs were equipped with the 30, from the factory. (after '71, that is)
