Registered User 1949 Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: South of Staunton, Virginia Posts: 1,053 | Or the engine, 72 HP and 115 ft/lbs or so, the 5.38 give the engine good acceleration, but you loose top speed, because that is limited by the engine's max RPMs. if you put on 4.88 gears (for example) you will have a higher top speed, but the engine WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REACH IT because it does not have enough power. Registered User 1959 CJ5 | I can hit 60 in mine on a good day. I have the overdrive on it with 5.38 gears. Although it's about on the floor at anything over 50. Older CJ5's love 45 mph all day long. If you can I would definitely spring for an overdrive, I think they run about $800 or so from Herm. Check out hermtheoverdriveguy.com for prices |
