with a little work, about 150 MPH (give or take)

Project CJ-7 Aka Worlds FASTEST JEEP Pics.

on a serious note, I'm guessing a tp speed of about 40-45, depending on tire size.

no you can go 55 w/o an overdrive, but the engine would be screaming in the mid 3000s

buy an overdrive and you can do 60 all day long, cause the rpms will only be in the mid to upper 2000s that's where those engines like to run.

an engine which has a higher RPM range instead of the f-head's 4,000 limit.

or

a bigger engine and lower numerical # gearing.

but

if you think about it, an overdrive is well worth it, because it is the cheapest way.

Or the engine, 72 HP and 115 ft/lbs or so, the 5.38 give the engine good acceleration, but you loose top speed, because that is limited by the engine's max RPMs.

if you put on 4.88 gears (for example) you will have a higher top speed, but the engine WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REACH IT because it does not have enough power. In other words with higher gearing, you might be able to reach 60 (without an overdrive) on a sunny day, with a tailwind, down a good sized hill.

I can hit 60 in mine on a good day. I have the overdrive on it with 5.38 gears. Although it's about on the floor at anything over 50. Older CJ5's love 45 mph all day long. If you can I would definitely spring for an overdrive, I think they run about $800 or so from Herm. Check out hermtheoverdriveguy.com for prices
