Of all the items I have repaired or replaced on my build so far, I should have left the D300 bearings alone and replaced the gaskets and seals. Your case and gears look clean and in good condition.

OKay I think I am gonna use all the same parts....But I want to press off the bearings so I can clean everything out extremely well and then put it all back together. Anyone have pics of how they situate the case in the press to get the front and rear output shafts out of the thing? I dont want to break anything.

Okay so I bought a 12 ton press at the harbor freight sale today! WOO HOO!
And its awesome...! So I pressed out the rest of the crap in the case and now I think I will just clean it extremely well with mineral spirts and blow it out with compressed air. Other then seals what else should I replace in there? What is worth replacing? I think my bearings are in good shape and I think I will go with it! (I still hope to be able to afford a 4 to 1 and do this again....Someday) |
