How did this happen, The Rebuild

I was looking for a jeep in decent condition to drive in the summer and have some fun with. I came across this jeep on the internet that looked ok in the pics and I could get by making a trade of an old trailer I did not need anymore. The guy told me that it needed floors but otherwise it was good to go. I decided to make the trade and it just so happened that we planned to meet up at 8:00 at night. Well he showed up at 10:00 and it was pitch black out but I figured how bad could it be since he just drove it 2 hours from his house to meet up. I loaded it up on a trailer and took it home and did not mess with it until I got home from work the next afternoon. I unloaded it off the trailer and drove it up and down the block and it seemed to drive real good but it looked a little more rotted than I had expected. I yanked the rugs and started poking around and here I am ADDICTED to the CJ forum.

4x4 wood bumper and a 2x4 rear body mount

That is where I am now, ughhhhhhhh. So much for a deal but so far I am loving every minute of this Jeep. I have the new crossmember and body mounts just need to schedule my welder. I guess its going to be a long winter.

I literally unbolted that 2x4 from the body, made two cuts threw the rockers and just rolled the back-half of the tub onto the ground. I just need to unbolt a few more things from the new frame and I am going to start on the cleaning and welding prep.

That Jeep either lived in a salt shed or spent a great deal of time in the ocean. Either way I agree you have a full project for winter. Good luck with her.

I know your pain. THe body on my first cj7 looked just like that. And I drove it for 3 years before I restored it. I had the rollbar that was mounted to the fenders and sides of the tub and when I took it off the tub literally fell off the jeep. the city garbage pickup took the entire tub to the dump because there was no piece except the firewall that wouldn't fit it the trash can

I'd be more than a little pissed. The body rot is bad enough, but the frame would put me over the top. I'd be mad at myself first. How could anyone sell something like that and not disclose the fact that if you hit a bump hard, you may be toast. Great attitude on your part! Have fun with it.
