how to check engine rpm

what is the cheapest tool to check engine rpm? Other than a tach, which I don't have how could I check my engine rpm?

Need a tach of some sort. I used to have a cheap diagnostic thing for checking points dwell, voltage, ohms and it had a tach on it. I suppose you could get one of those.

I figured a tach would be the easiest way to go. I'm installing a junkyard Tbi and need to check the engine rpm. I guess I'll buy a cheap tach and put it on my Jeep.

Thats what I did when I was timing my Dune-Buggy-Thing. I went out and bought the cheapest tach I could find and ended up permanently installing it on the dash.
