Home build rocker guards/steps

My dad is making some sliders for his cj and i think they are coming along pretty good so i figure id post some pics

What do you guys think?

Also, Can someone tell if the welds are ok and maybe tell how we can make them better
here is the welder

He hasnt really ever welded anything like this before so we figured we would post some pics and see how he is doing.....How do they looks?

Im guessing he will have them done today...I get some more pics when he gets them mounted up and stuff....

The welds look like they'll hold okay.

Question... were you planning on that lower corner fitting up tight against the body tub? If so, the welds are now going to hit the body. If I were going to weld the plates together like that, I would have ground a groove along the outside of the joint and filled it in... grinding it smooth afterward. That would leave a clean 90* inside corner to fit up against the bottom lip of the tub.

Nice looking sliders though..

He said he has about 85 bucks into the metal, then he took the tube to a exhaust shop and had them bent, He asked how much he owed the guy and he said dont worry about it. then of course some welding wire and the cost of the bolts to hold them on. So under 100 buck....

I have about ten bucks in mine, I got all the steel at the recycle yard. I did have to clean the rust off of it, and they were made about 10 years ago. I used one of the Harbor Freight benders on mine and it did ok on the small stuff.

Way cool man. I love to see home fabbed stuff.
As for the welds, they should do just fine. But try turning up the voltage and running a slower bead with less wire feed and you should get decent penetration. Some guys like to make a C motion with the tip of MIG (me) and some guys just like to run a straight line. Thats the beauty of MIG...experiment.

Good work man.
