High idle during driving...

Hey, my CJ7 ('82 2.5L 151) idles perfectly fine if I kick down the accelerator... but when I drive... i pop in the clutch to change gears/come to a stoplight and the engine idles crazily until i drop down the accel. again then it idles fine.... any ideas why it would be doing this?

Sounds like the fast idle cam plate on the carb is sticking. Spray it down with WD-40 and see if it helps. Go ahead and soak the whole outside of the carb. It won't hurt anything.

Alright! Thanks for the reply, I'll try that soon... its getting really annoying expecting my vehicle to slow down and crawl, except its idling high and im flying around at like 10 mph with the accel. let go! Makes for very intersting wheeling when going down hills, I'll tell you!
