I love how Herculiner looks!

Any tricks of the trade, or pitfalls you want to share?

Looks great. After i had mine done i was thinking about having the entire body sprayed with it. Never have to worry about scratches or road chips

I have done the roller method and paint brush method a few times, holds up nice as long as the prep is good.

I rolled mine on also and it has held up very well. Herculiner also make a UV protectant that I would recommend.

I think the most important thing is to just prep it really well, and think everything out and take your time. I do have a little experience with Herculiner before. Masking is really key, and remove the tape when its still tacky. Today, I'm gonna look for some shiny bolts for the shifter plate. Some contrast will look nice. Soon I want to get a stainless dash with aluminum and chrome accents.

Also, fitment is going to be an issue if I ever want to put another hard top on, so I left the rail bare, and I will go over it with a duraliner spray can. Its still durable, but a lot thinner and smooth.

That does look good! I just did mine about a month ago or so. I've done it with the roller setup before but this time I used a spray gun. I just bought a HF Texture Spray gun for like $25 and "spattered" it in. Took all of about 10 minutes per coat and I sprayed 3-4 good coats. Thought I'd toss that out there for those of you with compressors.

So if I have a tub in really good shape. How far do I need to take the prep. I have a few spots with light rust, that I can get back to bare metal. Do I need to take all the old paint off all the way down to bare shiny metal? Or if I hit hard and rough the surface will it be ok? Of course I will remove all the dust, dirt, rust etc. Plus all the rust. The roller method seems really nice.

Thanks for the help.

You can lay it over sound paint. Just thoroughly scuff everything, wash it out with a good degreaser (like superclean), let it dry, wipe down twice with Xylene and go for it.

Besrk - Do you have pics of the spray in? Is there a texture difference once complete compared to the roll on? Is that texture spray gun similar to an under coat gun? Thanks!

Few questions:

1)how long did it take, prep, paint, everything?
2)how much did you get?
3)is it really rough when put on? read things about being rough on the knuckles, etc.
4)does it affect doors closing, tops, any other fittings on the jeep?
5)what did you plug bolt holes with, and did you just leave the drain holes uncovered?

For me
1)how long did it take, prep, paint, everything?
About half a day
2)how much did you get?
1 Gallon + 1 bottle UV Protectant
3)is it really rough when put on? read things about being rough on the knuckles, etc.
I try not to drag my knuckles when I drive
4)does it affect doors closing, tops, any other fittings on the jeep?
Tape mine off. Have no problem
5)what did you plug bolt holes with, and did you just leave the drain holes
Painted over the drain holes then cleaned out hole after it dried. Waded up tape in threaded holes.
