Help!power steering conversion

I have a 85 CJ7 with manual steering. I took the power steering box off of my 87 yj and mounted on my cj. The problem I have is I cant figure out what spline my power steering box is. So I can order the right one. I know its 3/4 do but not sure how to count the splines because it has a big flat spot on it. Sorry for the newb question but this is my first jeep build.

Count the splines on half the circle and double that number.

I did that that gives me a 3/4 with a 26 spline nobody ive called flaming and borg with nothing that would work.

Something is wrong with your count then. It's either not halfway or you're counting the valleys instead of peaks.

If you tell them what the box came from (87 YJ), they should be able to tell you the spline pattern. That's the business they're in, you're paying for their expertise.

Autozone part #7537. Input spline count 26 output spline count 32.

thanks guys its 32 a stock cj7 p/s shaft will work. One more question.....I snapped the 3 bolts that hold the box to the frame. Does anybody know what size to look for at lowes?

7/16" coarse thread (14 tpi). Grade 8. If Lowes doesn't carry grade 8's, Tractor supply has a good selection. Anti seize the new bolts, you will be thankful at some later point in life.

If you snapped the bolts in the frame, good luck getting them out. I ended up taking a chisel and knocking the hell out of them to break the tack welds that hold them in..Then it is a circus to balance the new lock washer and nut while starting them....Takes a while, but doable!

If you are talking about the bollts that hold the bracket to the frame, the nuts are welded inside the frame.

There are bolts that hold the steering Box to the bracket. They are the Same size.

A couple of companies make one piece brackets for mounting the PS sector, It is a good investment to pick one up while your into it this deep!

yea im talking about the ones that hold it to the frame. Maybe I can get them out without losing the nuts.

Soak them with lots of PB blaster for a day or two (you can spray inside the frame thru one of the access holes on the side. Use a reverse drill bit and maybe an ez-out... you might get lucky and they'll back out. I had one that was very difficult recently and I ended using an acetylene torch to burn it out and then I cut a small hole in the side of the frame to weld another nut inside. Welded the hole shut when it was all done. As mentioned earlier, be sure to use some anti-seize on the bolts to avoid this problem in the future.
