Help me Identify this CJ

Hey guys, Okay, so, I see this Poor Jeep parked along this street in my city. I feel so bad for it, it just sits there and sits there, hasn't been moved in years. Obviously nobody there wants it. A crime, yes. I'm not sure what model it is though. Its got a full solid top. Not removable hard top or anything. Its a steel solid box top. I love the look of it. I haven't beena ble to find any on the net to compare it to though. Can anyone help and tellme what kind of jeep this is. Next week i am going over to the house to give them an offer. It can't just sit there like that. I have an 86 CJ and would love to add another. I'll try and take a picture of it and shoot that up on here if none can really identify it by what i say. Oh, BTW i do believe this is a technical problem, because i am trying to identify something.

so don't boot.

Short length or kind of long?

Could be an older CJ3 but would need more info to help.

it almost look like its more a cj7 type model. I am going to go have another look at it today, take a picture too

DJ maybe? does the grill protrude past the front edge of the bumper? 2wd? just thinking about the non-removable hard top.

Yeah, i found a pic of a Dj on the net, thats gotta be what it is. I love it. Whats some info on the dj's. waywardfool, did you say they are 2wd?

google something like "dj5 postal jeep" you'll get a lot of crap and a few gems

I have a 1981 DJ5 postal jeep that I bought several years ago from a local rural mail carrier who retired. Mine has an Iron Duke engine and a Chrysler automatic transmission. I think they all came with automatics. I have been told they use the old style (early 1970's) short CJ-5 frame and are 2WD. I bought it because it has the same motor as my 1980 CJ-7 and the price was right. I was originally thinking about converting it to a CJ-5. It would take a lot of time and work, probably not worth the effort.

Thanks for the info guys. 2WD, little dissapointed, but i can make this my daily driver jeep and keep my CJ7 for the trails. Good plan.
