Pre computer, no stepper motor.

Rebuild kit easy to get and cheap.

Check throttle shaft for play up and down.
Thank You,
so I just need to ask for a Carter BBD 2 bbl carb kit?

Probably need to tell them year and engine size.

If there was a tag on it you should take that in but looking at the front of the carb there appears to be a sticker so that carb might be a replacement carb.

Still, give them the year and engine size also. They should be able to find one.

As far as I can tell going to napa you get 1 rebuild kit.

It covers all Carter BBD applications. Be it Jeep or mother mopar. Pick a early to mid 80's jeep with the 4.2l. Heck a jeep Wagoneer with the 4.2l will get you the same kit too. If your picking up what I'm putting down.

Pick a CJ year without the stepper say a 1981 or 1982 with the 258. All rebuild kits are in 1 box. Napa has a good kit it has the check balls and the throttle plate screws in the kit.

Not sure there is a napa around here but I will check it out. I will see what the other places carry.

What are steppers?

The steppers were a BBD carb with a little stepper motor moving two pins in and out controling the fuel mixture based on what the O2 sensor reading is.

I have a video or two on my YouTube channel of them in operation its "EugeneKingify"

Go into any auto parts store and ask for a carb rebuild kit for a '79 CJ with the 258 and 2barrel carb. Done.

And yes, that is the right kit. Notice that it says that it's for the BBD.
