Help finding VIN numbers

Got a 73 Cj5 for xmas this year and have been working on it and have just now realized that there is no vin plate on the firewall. Question is does anyone know of another vin number location? I have the vin on the title but it needs the plate for the out of state inspection.

Was the metal firewall plate removed, or you just can't locate it ?
You can always get a repro dash sticker made up:

I was wondering how that'd work for those that made their own dashes, since the VIN sticker is on the dash panel. Is that what those people do - get replacement stickers and put them on their new panel?

I guess I will have to go with the repro stickers. But I am wondering exactly how legal it is. Because if it is then it really defeates the purpose of vin numbers, like if someone stole the jeep then they could change the vins by simply buying a 20 dollar sticker. So I'm just afraid that when it comes to the vehicle inspection that they are going to turn me down because of the repro sticker.

partial vin number is stamped on the frame....

Above Passenger Rear Axle on the high point of frame on the top of bend is a partial vin number stamp. Stamp is bit more than 1/8 tall and is about 1.5" long.

That VIN sticker isn't the "legal" VIN. The plate on the firewall near the master cylinder is the actual ID plate. This is the case up until the years where the VIN tag is attached to the top of the dash and visible through the windshield.

Hmmm. Mine has a fiberglass tub, no sticker/plate on the firewall, only the one on the dash. As for the frame - it's so crusty back there I doubt there's any left readable.
