What is the easiest way to keep the crank from turning when trying to loosen the crank center bolt?

I just tried it again but no dice still just turns the crank. It is in gear with the parking brake applied and a 4x4 behind the rear wheels.

you may have to give it a few turns till the drive train catches up..Or if you have a strap wrench have someone hold it..

I usually use something like 3rd gear when I'm using the clutch to hold the vehicle.
The crank has too much mechanical advantage when it's in 1st or Reverse.

Also, you can jam up the flywheel/flexplate.
there is actually a tool for doing that very thing, but a carefully placed pry bar will work just fine too.

I've seen guys put a bar through the Tcase U joint and let it contact the frame, but I'm not crazy about that one...
Nothing specific, just don't much like the feel of it.
One of those things you can't quite put your finger on!

Well in the process of trying to get the pulley off I noticed some cracks in my frame near my winch bracket so I have been pulling off my winch, bumper, and grill to get a better look. Man, I don't even solve one problem before I find another. This is off the original subject but what kind of place can you trust to weld a frame? I also have a small rusty area in the rear frame near one of the spring mounts that I need cut out and a new piece of steel welded in. I have seen some of the other members on this site have done it themselves but I lack the skills. Anything to look for or questions to ask when trying to find a place to do this?

Just read it, thanks. Tomorrow I am going to make some calls and see if I can find a place to get that welded once it's running again. That's it for tonight.

Just got the balancer off, yep, looks like a jackhammer was used to install it. The rubber in the balancer itself looks dry rotted and certainly looks like it has spun a few times.

I'll post some pics after I get home. I am going to autozone after work to order some parts. After reading about how to replace the front seal I saw the manual calls for a timing cover aligning tool. Autozone has no idea what I am talking about. Know where I should look for one? This is all based on the assumption that the timing cover has to be removed to replace the front seal, it does right? Here's to riding my motorcycle in winter rain!
