heculiner questions
i just am finishing up all the body work on my jeep and wanted to put somthing on the inside besids carpet. i was thinking herculine (or a product like it) has any one used it on the interior of their jeep or knows how hard it is to put on or how durable it really is
Thanks, Zach

I know there have been several threads about this in the past but hopefully some people will post some fresh ideas/opinions on this as I am right up to this point as well. I wanted a fairly heavy texture which is why I got the herc kit, hopefully I won't be disappointed. I am curious as well as to just how much a glass tub needs to be scuffed for adhesion.

"Hard" is relative. It's not brain surgery - but it does take some elbow grease. It took me a good two days to do it (though I was a bit anal about the prep work). There are multiple steps to properly herculining your Jeep and multiple websites outline those steps with pics (ex. http://www.4x4xplor.com/herculiner.html). Just make sure you focus on two things - 1. Prep is key. Don't skip any prep steps - this will have the biggest impact on the look and longevity of the lining. And 2. Spray it - don't brush it.
I've since sold the Jeep I lined - but to a friend so I see it all the time. The only damage he has to the lining came from a spilled can of brake fluid - which will eat through anything. The good thing is, you can buy a cheap small can of herculiner and brush/spray it right on the damage. It bonds to itself. |

I her'd the underside of my tub and had the inside Rhino-lined. While the latter is more expensive I think its a much nicer finish.

This is what alot of us have used, easy as pie and it comes with a spray gun.

One gallon will probably do it - though I don't know if rolling it on will end up using more or less than spraying. I sprayed and was able to get just over 2 coats on with one gallon.

One gallon will do the job. Going to have better coverage and final result with a sprayer.

Do yourself a favor and rent a compressor. Get a gun and spray it!

If you just roll the tub (2 coats) a gallon will be enough. I did the tub, the bottom of the roll bar (where the pad doesn't cover), the wheel wells and the gas tank skid... two coats and it was a gallon and a half.
Make sure you wear a respirator and gloves...you will get it all over yourself.

Did mine with a roller and used herculiner. Turned out great. Took just over a gallon on mine but I laid 3 coats on. Actually I didn't do hardly any of it . My wife did and she did a fantastic job. Got as many compliments on it as the new paint.

Prep work is the key to herculiner. Bad prep, bad results.
