Is this the same for an 84 cj7?

Yes for sure. It works on all heaters with their motor sticking out under the battery.

FYI: Siemens and VDO are the same product. The one I recently picked up says "Siemens/VDO" on the box.
VDO102 and Siemens PM102 are the exact same thing.

Just got it done! My "enlarged hole" in the fire wall is butt-ugly, but with some good black Lawson RTV, who's gonna' see?
To Mike Romain: Living in Central Wisconsin we get plenty cold around here...If this upgrade can keep you warm even farther "nort", I should be real happy! FWIW..I replaced the heater core as well and tried this thing out in the driveway even with it just 48 degrees here tonite, and it was getting downright uncomfortable hot inside the Jeep tonite and I wasn't even driving it!
Best 25 bucks I have spent on her yet. My wife drives it to school when the roads are bad and she asked me tonite..."Will this upgrade help keep the windshield clearer than last winter?" I just grinned and walked away.....

Just called autozone and had them ship the part to the store. It was 19.99 plus tax for the Siemens PM102 and the guy said that they showed the 102 for non ac blazers and the 105 for Blazers with A/C

That is very odd.... I have done a few of them for myself and others and always got the right part when asking for the one 'with' AC. I am up in Canada though and they do sell a 'premium' blower motor they call it that has the longer shaft at twice the price.

I just use the 102 part number now to help avoid that confusion.

well i am debating whether or no I want to do it before my trip coming up I am leaving on the 5th... How long would this take if you dont know what you are doing already? Everyone seems to agree that this will burn you out of the cj but we just replaced the heater corp(old one was bypassed when we bought it) but the air doesnt really feel very warm so I am not sure how more powerful motor wil make the air warmer... but we will see I have the 102 sitting at my feet right now.

Well, you now know how to take the box out, so that is 90% of the fun figured out. Cutting the hole is not too bad. The blower just bolts right onto the fan The ones I helped with took a leisurely afternoon from start to finish while having a few cold beer.

You guys inspired me to do this upgrade today... man that thing pushes some air! I haven't tried it long enough to see how much more heat I'll pull from the core, but it should be a good deal more.

PS: Use a dremel to score the firewall and then cut 2" wedges; you can then use a pair of pliers to bend the sheetmetal off and make a hole that looks like it belongs there. Neoprene sealer or black RTF gasket on the new unit to keep things tight.

About the only downside on this upgrade so far is the rough layer of salt on the outside of the windshield because all the water has evaporated away leaving the salt behind. And the exploding pop cans on the floor because they have been over heated by the air coming out of the floor vents.

This is maybe a dumb question, but is a YJ heater motor worth the upgrade?

many thanks in advance

Yes/no/maybe. The early YJ's had the same tiny blower as a CJ. The later YJ's had a bigger blower I believe, but I am not sure if it will physically fit.

I would 'not' recommend a used motor of any kind! The new ones are inexpensive and it is a fairly large job to change them out. I just had my 'new' blower up and die on me, but it gave me 10 years of nice heat.
