She is fine with it, her only "demand" was that I not drive it without seatbelts. I put those in yesterday, but of course started working on other things. I have only driven it about one mile!

Hey, you don't happen to have that sort of star shaped horn contact washer that goes under the horn button do you? it is under the part that is held down by three screws and the green insulator. I keep picturing a box of parts in your garage that has a few of my missing items. Happy to pay for misc. stuff.

Started on the right side wheel well panel replacement today. Started on the left side which had enough original metal left for me to trace to make the pattern. I cut that out on a piece of plywood, then took my three pieces of sheet metal, and welded them together to make one piece. Then I traced the pattern on to the sheet metal and added a half inch around the radius. Next, I cut it out, then clamped it to the plywood form and set it on the bench wood side up. Then I took the grinder and made relief cuts every inch or less along the radius, then bent them over with a hammer. After that, I welded all the relief cuts back up, and ground it all smooth. Took about 3 hours , but it turned out great, and fits like a glove. Now, just gotta install it! Also going to have to make one for the other side, just smaller.

Got all the bad metal cut out now. Was worried I'd find more rot behind there, but to my surprise, everything is solid! Tomorrow I'll trim down the new panel to fit, and start welding it in. This is by far the most complicated body work I've ever done, and I got my fingers crossed that it comes out good! Nows the time to buy stock in Bondo, cause I'll probably be using a lot!

You have a lot more patience than I do. When I put new rockers on my truck, it drove me batty. Tack, after tack, after tack...literally for hours.

Any time I can break out the stick welder and burn through some 1/8 rods, I'm in heaven.

Looking good though. Wish I had some good body work tips to give you other than take your time.

yea im enjoying this very much and learning. I got one 12x24 piece of sheet metal and that would be plenty for my rockers. watching your build makes me thank myself for getting a southern project. What are the specs on your welder if you dont mind me asking?

I'm using a Hobart 120 volt MIG. It's perfect for 16 gauge up through 3/16 plate.

And I am trying to take my time with this fix. I made the panel this morning. Then went a blew leaves the rest of the afternoon, then came back to cut out the old metal. Phase three will wait till tomorrow now.

And I upgraded my welding setup the other day with an auto darkening welding helmet. What a difference!

Yeah, and he was pretty bitter about the fact that you stopped sending those love letters to him a while back. He said you two had "something special" going on, especially for being second cousins!

Isn't Leaves, Bubbles brother?.... anyways, not sure how good your eyes are but try to get a magnifying lens plate for your welding helmet. A 1.5x helps out alot for me, and I only wear glasses for driving.
The fender turned out good. A little paint and it's just like it came from the factory! Before you close up that B pillar don't forget to coat that rust inside of it.

Thanks! Hey, what kind of seam sealer did you use on yours, and where did you get it? Looks like I'll be needing some soon!

Pretty sure it's 3M stuff. White can, blue lettering. I'll verify. I also used a tube of Eastwood's stuff which gave a different texture and took longer to dry, but I could squeeze it into hard to reach places. I got the 3M stuff at Car Quest but several places have it.

Thanks. I'm gonna check at Hovis tomorrow. They sell Por-15 and the U-pol Raptor bedliner, so I imagine they would have some good seam sealer. Would like to get it in a tube like caulking.

Also got my Prothane master bushing set today. The body mounts have the sleeve molded into them, and they don't need cut down like the crown set did. And I got every single bushing that's in the Jeep! You can see one of the red body mounts in the front.
