I bought one about a year and a half ago. The only problem I had with it was a rear main seal, all the other gaskets and seals were fine. The parts were Melling oil pump, Comp cam (spent a few xtra $ for that), Silvolite pistons, Hastings rings, Manley connecting rods, Engine tech gaskets, Federal Mogul bearings and lifters, Cloyes timing set. I don't remember the brand of connecting rods. The rest of the valvetrain that was in the kit, was put in by the machine shop at Carquest, so I'm not sure on those. I bought the kit through Carquest, and they had a great reputation as a quality machine shop. It took forever because they are really busy. There were at least 6 motors ahead of mine, and a pile of heads. I brought them the block and head disasembled, and had them machine everything, install the bearings in the block, and do everything on the head. I did everything else I've got about 15k miles on it, and haven't had any problems. I figure if I get 75k out of it, I'm good for a few years, then it's a SBC.
I'm not sure what tomorrow will bring, but it can't be any worse than what I've already been through.
