Growling sounds when clutch pushed in at high speeds?

I have had this CJ for 6 months now and it has always had a growling either in the transmission of the t-case...not sure. It happens more at high speed.

I did notice the rear output yoke was loose on the dana20 and the growling got MUCH better. Doesn't do it until 40mph or so. I was told it was the throwout bearing but sicne it changed when I tightened the yoke I am not sure...what should I do?

Could be the Pinion Bearing or the Gear Engagement on the Ring and Pinion Gears that is causing the noise but it will take a little work to check it out.

You should get the Pinion Nut tightened to the correct torque spec and see if that helps, if not pull the rear diff cover and look at the gears to see what is happening.
You might need to clean up things and have the gears check for alignment using the white paste.

The throw out bearing is a consideration, not sure how to check it but torque up the pinion and see what happens, see if the noise goes away at speed when you disengage the clutch.

The pinon nuts are tight...I dont think the gears in the axles are bad, it has done this for months and axles gears would have eaten themseles long ago...I need to replace the gear oil so I will check it out when I am in there to make sure.

seams to me to b e a throw out bearing - buddies did exactly this last year - swaped it out - thing was a mess, now more noise.

Then he had a similar noise a few weeks later, but very high pitched, tire squeal like.

Turns out his AC compresor had frozen up on him - belt was just draggin accross it.
