Grinding when the wheel is fully turned left/right
Hey everyone...
I'm looking for some suggestions on where to start finding a problem. When I turn the wheel all the way left or right, there is some grinding and it almost feels like it is going to stall the Jeep. I also feel like I hear whooshing sound in the steering column (probably not the best explanation).
I just had a new steering gear box and power steering pump installed, but I honestly can't recall if the same problem existed before hand (The Jeep pulled really bad to the right when I first got it so the gear box was one of the first things I had done and I'm finally now getting to really drive it and.
If the problem is gear box or pump related, I'll fight the shop that installed it to make it right - I just want to be educated when I call them first.
Thanks all...

Hard to tell, But sounds like the new pump is part of the problem.
Just take it back and have them look at it.

Check the power steering fluid. Turn the wheel lock to lock a couple times then check it again. Could be air in the system. Some times its hard to get it out.
If its full take it back, could be bad box or pump.

just throwing this out there. no idea what the sound is like and cant see. (obviously) the new gear box might have a lil bit more throw left and right than the old one. this can cause one of two conditions, if not both. look for tire rub in full turn, and also check for U joint bind. check this and adjust stops if you detect interference.

if thats a pic of your jeep your tires are to wide. you need wheel spacers. adjusting the stops prolly wont help with that. my buddy had the same problem on his running 35 x 15.5 claws. he added 2" wheel spacers and it cleared but barely. to adjust the stops there is a bolt that stops the knuckle from turning so far. basically adjusting those will decrease your turning radius. you will need to invest in some spacers.

I didn't notice anything rubbing when I turned the wheel....but you could be right. I'm running 33s with a 1.5" body lift and 2" spring lift, but no spacers. I guess there is no way to prove that's the problem without putting them in and seeing if anything changes?

its not t diamater that matters it will be how wide the tires are. my friend's jeep came with 31 sx tires but they were very wide. i would think anything wider than 12.5 would rub but just my guess. look at your leaf springs and see if there are marks from the tire rubbing.

Both measurements matter. The taller tire will go deeper in the well area when turned... and you already explained the issue with width.
My 35X1250s will rub if I lift a wheel while turning. It makes quite a grinding noise.
