Grease clogged superwinch hubs

Took the superwinch locking hubs off for the first time to lube/clean them and found the PO had loaded them up with grease... Can I use brake cleaner on them safely (metal, some plastic, and the aluminum hub face) to get all the grease out and then coat with 30W oil?

I dont think that brake cleaner would hurt, but you may want to start with a "milder" degreaser. It will take more but ensure no damage to the parts. You could actually take them and soak them in rubbing alcohol and that will break down the grease pretty well and have no affect on the other components.

Good old fashioned paint thinner is a great parts cleaner. Not lacquer thinner, it is a lot stronger. Paint thinner is petroleum based, similar to kerosene. God bless.

Mineral Spirits is a cheap, reliable and is easy on parts for a parts cleaner.
