On going 1983 CJ7 restore

Hi all,
I'm new to the forum, I've been on the sidelines for a while, and wanted to share my progress and also ask a few questions, so please bear with me.
I started my project in 2004 with the purchase of a 1983 CJ7, 258 engine,T5 tranny. I stripped it down to the frame and started from there. I guess my first ? is how do I post pic's.

you have to do the photobucket thing

im not one of those that embraces technology but it wasnt that hard. just create a photobucket acct and upload your pic's to that site. then copy and paste the url address from the photo you want to the "upload images" box at the bottom of your post. im sure someone else will help you out. not sure why we cant simply upload from our computers?

Does anyone know how to get the old pulley off the power steering pump, so I can put it on the new stock pump? Thanks

Those links didn't work. If you're using photobucket, there should be a button you can click on their site when looking at one of your pictures that looks like two links of chain just above your picture. Click that. A window will open. Click the URL code under the Links tab under the title IMG codes. Then go to your thread and right click and paste. That should work.

Go to O'Reillys or AutoZone, they will let you rent a pulley puller/installer. Take your pump with you and they may help you do it at the counter if they aren't busy. The rental price is the price of buying it but you get your money refunded when you return it. Or, you can just keep it and they get another one from the warehouse. I went ahead and got the O'Reilly one because it has a hard case and does ford and GM in one set. It's the same price as the cheapy set they sell on the floor.

Be advised, those pulleys can be a PITA to pull off, even with a puller.

I rented the O'reilly's puller, as HALO mentioned, and here's the results of my attempt. The pulley never did come off, I just ripped the lip off.

I hope you have better luck,

Matt

Sounds like I have to use my laptop, I've been trying it from my phone. Thanks

Do you have the jeepforum.com app? When I reply to a thread there is a plus sign at the top of the iPhone screen of the app. That's how you can add pictures from your phone.

I did try that, but I must be doing something wrong, I'm sure it's a learning curve I have to get thru. Thanks

That's good. I'd try some heat along with the puller.

Worse case scenario, you have to buy a new pulley.

Good luck.

Matt
