Geico Insurance Failure

Well I am newer to CJs, and didn't think twice about putting it on my current Geico policy, however I received this back from them when I tried...

Quote:
Thank you for your reply. We apologize for any miscommunication regarding your 1974 Jeep. We received your request to quote the 1974 Jeep, and we will be more than happy to review this further.

Unfortunately we are unable to provide coverage for the 1974 Jeep CJ-5.

Your 1974 Jeep is unacceptable due to the construction and handling of the vehicle. We do not have appropriate rates for your 1974 Jeep; therefore, we would not be able to add this vehicle to your policy. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

So does anyone have an alternative that they use that doesn't break the bank???

OH that is a thought for sure. Hit Allstate up with the house and cars, but they are $800 more a year without the jeep lol.

I had State Farm for many years until they decided my one ton pickup was a "commercial vehicle" and tried to jack my rates. Been with Progressive for two years with no issues.

I am insured with GEICO also for my daily driver and understand that they do not insure lifted jeeps for safety reason and older jeeps due to historical track records, which I understand from working in the industry. Long story short I found the Company American Modern and they will with you a stated/Appraised value policy for the older and modified jeeps. They now insure my 79 CJ5. Conditions are that it is a low use vehicle kept in a garage on property. Low miles means to cars shows, club meets ect. will not insure them as a daily driver. Annual policy is running me only $150 a year for it appraised at $8K. hope this helps someone.

The problem with limited use (car shows, parades, etc.) is that if you get into an accident while driving it somewhere else they will not cover it. I just verified this with State Farm in writing as I was looking for new quotes. The best deal I have found so far is AIG - Chartis.

They are the best for sure. Luckily, my dad was military, so I got it too! Even my step daughter signed up for it.

That's true. My '47 is insured conventionally because of this.

I was with RBC in Canada and they dropped me because they found out the CJ7 had a working winch on it! According to them, having a winch makes it some kind of commercial application and they only insure personal vehicles.
