I know one way to make my Overlander go a bit faster

image-2435024286.jpg

Damn thing weighs about a ton
Maybe I can tie a rope around these two to drag it out. Lots of energy unharnessed right there!
image-1047574462.jpg

I can go one of two ways with this
1) pull the heads and see inside or
2) mount it up on this:

which now has no engine/box/t'fer case and start it up and see how it sounds.
First things first I have to get it out, onto the ute and down to the shop. Wish me luck.

What engine is that? And is it in your crawl space?

That's a 360 out of a 79 Cherokee I bought to get an engine for my CJ7. Had a couple of complications so I took it out and stowed it under the house. It's been there for over ten years! Time for the beast to breathe again I say!

WSS...you mean illegal in CA or in the U.S.? I could of sworn I've seen that stuff for sale here in TX but I could be completely wrong.

Ya, they pulled it off of shelves early last year here in the Republik of Kalifornia. I have a small stock of it. They say it is very bad for you and you should not be trusted to use it wisely. Gotta give it to Kalifornia, they know how to protect you LOL

The substitute for it really does not work.

Wow...did not know that. I'll cherish the gallon or so I have! Works wonders on fiberglass stains on my boat...

I got out of CA when I had the chance (military). If I have my way, I'd never go back! :-P But really...if you guys ever need any just let me know and I'll drop some in the mail. I'm sure that's illegal but...what they don't know can't hurt them?

We use MEK as the cleaner or primer for gluing our ABS pipe and fittings together on our desalination systems. It's the grey pipe on the wall.
image-191123682.jpg
We had a thing when some Air Force guys got way sick and may have died perhaps from using MEK inside the wing fuel tanks to clean sealant.
Not sure but I may have some effects from skin contact on and off for 15 years. I think it's made my belly stick out a bit and my face get wrinkly.

Onto my 360:
Good and bad day. Got it mostly cleaned up
image-4151919793.jpg
Pulled a couple of plugs and found a nice bore full of water :roll eyes: seems my sealing up of all orifices (orifi?) didn't work so good. I really didn't want to pull the heads since it was all so nicely done up with no leaks whatsoever but now I most likely will have to. Full rebuild master gasket /seal set to order tomorrow I guess. Morris or quadratic do you think?
Then it got just a little worse

Found myself two nice cracks in the HB. More rolleyes!!! Here in the land down under that's not going to be easy to find. I think there are about 11 360s in existence.
Then even a bit worse:
Called someone about a 360 balanced flywheel , guess what, don't exist. Not here anyway. Geez! Have any of you esteemed gents done or have heard of drilling an I6 flywheel to suit using a 360 flex plate as some sort of guide or indication? Apparently it's been done numerous time with success? I'm all ears.
Other option was to buy an NV3550 and its clutch/FW assembly off a TJ with the 4.0. Thoughts? Once again not going to be too easy to find here.

Gary,

Your 360 looks like a shining diamond compared to what I started with. But, someone got a little carried away with the blue paint.

I'm looking forward to your re-build of it.

Matt

Yeah, blue on blue. I bought black, black and silver rattle cans today. I'm excited but as mentioned in my last post there Matt maybe I'm not as excited as I was yesterday.

Gary,

I have no experience with it, but I've read that that a competent shop can balance a 360 with a 304 flywheel.

As for the balancer, is it shipping costs that prevents you from ordering one online?

Matt

I have an account with FedEx which will help. I was trying to keep this little project under the radar of the Interior Minister since I poured "a tidy sum" into my Renegade. It was going to be a cheap, easy and quick upgrade since the engine was a goer with no problems and it would drop right in front of my T5 even though I'd be leaving my lead foot at home in order to not turn the box inside out.

Do you think MoC might have the HB on his shelf?

Ordered a new HB from Dorman here in the US. It was made in China and loose as a goose on the crank, ordered a second same thing. Ended up with one from Precision? I think it was Made in Australia! was a little small but much better quality. My engine builder didn't want to heat the hell out of it to get it on so they machined it open a few thousands for a snug press fit.
