The bed for the Retro Wrangler is a reproduction unit for a '46 Chevy, available from a company called Mar-k. You can find them on the web. The fenders for both the Gaucho project and the Retro Wrangler project I molded myself in fiberglass. I still have the molds, but I do not have any plans to make the fenders available commercially.

In the thread I linked to in today's post, I am working on making a half-cab hardtop similar to the one on the Retro Wrangler pickup available commercially, but it would only work with a CJ-7. YJ or TJ, I have no plans to make it work with the CJ-5.

Sorry no update on the Gaucho project except to say that I've been using the Gaucho to do some test-fitting of the half-cabs for the Safari Cab hardtop project. There are a few photos of the Gaucho with the masters for the half-cab molds in the Safari Cab thread over in the TJ board... http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/safari-cab-custom-hardtop-project-952157/

I've been in discussions with a company that is interested in bringing the Safari Cab hardtop to market, and we've put an online survey together so we can gather market interest and feature desires as input to the company's decision about whether to bring this top to market, and which features are important.

If you're interested in the Safari Cab hardtop project, maybe you could take a few minutes to respond to the Safari Cab market survey.

Thanks for a few minutes of your time.
Jeff (and the company)

Jeff-thanks for the update.

Not that the Safari Cab thread doesn't have me on the edge of my seat every moment , but I REALLY look forward to having you back as a 'featured artist' in the CJ forum

Oh, and FWIW- I prefer an extra height, 6-degree slant, opera windowed, non-roof racked, stationary sunroofed, tinted 15 percent, non-screened, rear slidered, customed colored, detachable paneled, textured (but not too textured), barn door, corner-windowed, overhead corner-pocketed version... with drip rails!

OOPS, I talked to the person who put the survey together, and he said he has to turn it off for a bit to fix the problems that just came up, apologies (and embarrassment) for the false alarm, will let you know when he says it is fixed.

Hey Hoss, I've got news for you... if I finish the Gaucho it will be with YJ mechanicals, so maybe I'll have to finish the build in the YJ forum...

Jeff-contrary to what many therapist will tell you, when it comes to JEEPS, it whats on the OUTSIDE that counts!

in all seriousness, it really doesn't matter much to me where you do the work, I've had a TJ, 3 YJ's, and numerous CJ's... I'll follow your work into whatever genre needed!

Ok, the person who is responsible for the survey tells me it should be working now, here's the link again: Safari Cab market survey. Sorry for the inconvenience and please take the survey to help us bring the Safari Cab to market.

The person in charge sends his anonymous apologies, he'll be beaten later.

Hey Jeff, I saw this photo and thought of your rig. I noticed that this new "concept" Nukizer (New Kaiser) 715 FSJ has the spare mounted like you did it. See? You already have an influence on future Jeeps.

Thanks... I had two thoughts when I saw the Nukizer photos:

1. I wondered if they've been following the Gaucho build thread to get that idea for the spare?

2. I could build a hood/fender set like that. (Not for the Gaucho of course, but for a JK or maybe even a TJ...)

Correction: You could pretty much build anything you put your mind to.

Perhaps a call to the guys at Mopar Underground might figure out who stole your design idea.

And did you ever notice the tailgate on their Lower40 concept? It's got an old CJ tailgate "Jeep" embossing in it just like the tailgate I made for the Retro Wrangler.... hmmmm... maybe their next concept will be like the Safari Cab?

Anyway, here's one for the Nukizer fans:

Also, I just had another thought... Do you think you might install a couple of rubber or poly bushings/bumpers so that when filled, the 5 gallon gas cans will not bang up against the bed body or the rear flares? Just thinking out loud.

Yes, I thought about that when I was building the can mounts. I don't think it will be necessary, but if it is, my plan would be to put a foam bumper on the can strap, between the can and the bed side. That way there's nothing permanently on the bed side. Just a piece of say 1" thick black soft foam with a slot in it for the strap to pass through.

You may have addressed this, but have you considered a XJ 4.0/aw4 setup? I know the auto doesn't have that old-school appeal but an early 90s 4.0 HO is a great drivetrain and not too hard to swap over as a single unit. Best mod I ever did to my '88 YJ. Probably a lot easier to find and cheaper than a YJ donor.
