And now a question for you guys - do you like this level of detail?
//QUOTE

Its exactly this level of detail that attracts me, and every one else, to your builds. Keep it up!

I dig the detail, it teaches me new techniques that I may try on my own at some point. Thanks for the great read-

These are the builds that really make browsing the forums worth it. The really nice, entirely custom, builds with an attention to detail. Could be lifts or bumpers or a pickup conversion, it's all amazing, and I hope to have fabrications skills like this one day.

So thumbs up, and keep us updated!

OK, thanks guys, I'll keep the detail coming.

This time I've got the "legs" of the fender shortened, and most of the wheel arch back in.

Top left, where I left off last time - the fender is much shorter in length, you can see the difference from the wheel arch sitting in front of it.

Top right, I've shortened each of the legs about 5". Notice I made the cuts in different places on different sides. This was to make the body lines line up properly, the fender isn't symmetrical in design. The sides are gently curved where I cut them, and these were the only places to remove 5" and have everything line up. And as luck would have it, the marker light and fuel filler holes happened to be in the pieces I cut out. It's nice when things work out like that!

Bottom left: a 3/4 view of the fender, it is now the proper length and height. It's still too fat though, but making it narrower will come in a later step.

Bottom right: I've taken 5" out of the center of the wheel arch, and welded the result back into the fender. I also have to shorten the legs of the wheel arch, but I'll get to that next time.

Agreed! I always like seeing how things "work" and I think it's very interesting to see exactly how you're getting this done. Thanks for taking the time to share with us.

The wheel arch is done. Top left shows where I left off last time. Only the top half of the arch was in last time and the bottom inside legs of the fender are not trimmed to fit the arch.

The other two photos show the completed arch. All of the body lines worked out perfectly, everything lines up very nicely.

The fender is now the proper size, except it's still too fat. I'll have to take 3" out of the depth, but before that I think I'll take a break from the sectioning work and fix a small rust area on the fender flange. More progress tomorrow.

For cutting the fender sheet metal, I'm using a $20 Black & Decker jigsaw with a good-quality, 24-tpi bi-metal metal cutting blade.
