After spending a few days at EJS in Moab, where the average Jeep seems to have 6" lift and 38" tires, I can happily report that I do not have "Jeep envy". I'm completely happy with the Retro Wrangler the way it is - this week I've driven over things larger than I ever thought I could, and up things steeper than I ever imagined, so I'm satisfied with it the way it is. It's quite capable just as it is, especially since I built it to drive around town

Nice! Do any body damage? On something you worked so hard on it would be downright painful to damage it.

No damage, but it is dirtier than it's ever been

Well that tears it! I think you should probably just sell that dirty ol' thing for, say, $500...to me...I'll come pick it up and take it off of your hands tomorrow.

Yes, actually tomorrow morning. Unfortunately I have to be home by the weekend, which means leaving Moab first thing Wednesday morning. I've got to get to Lincoln, NE, the first night, so there won't really be any time for stops except gas and fast food.

Had two more successful trail days here, again I'm still very pleased and impressed with what the Retro is capable of off-road. I feel a bit like I'm driving a low-rider in this town, though, it seems that the average Jeep here has a 6" lift and 38" tires, making my 2" lift and 32's look puny.

Hopefully I'll get back to the Gaucho project next week, although the kids have break from school, so some vacation may interfere with Jeep work Next up, cutting the tub in half to turn it into a pickup cab.

Gotta go wash the Retro now...

I'd love to show it to all you guys, but this is a "blast home to NY as quickly as possible" trip, I'll be arriving Lincoln late at night and leaving before dawn. Sorry!

This week I'm going to cut the tub in half to begin the process of turning it into a pickup cab. When I did the Retro Wrangler, I undid many of the welded seams with a spot weld cutter to separate the panels. I'd like to do the same with this tub. The TJ FSM has a section showing every spot weld location and every seam sealer location (sample TJ drawing below).

As you know, the tub I'm using for this project is a YJ tub. I don't have the YJ FSM, so I don't know if it has this level of detail on the body - can someone with the YJ FSM check for me and see if it shows all the spot weld locations? And if it does, would you be able to scan those pages for me?

I can search for and find most of the the spot welds without the help of the manual, but the manual really made it easier to disassemble the LJ tub - there are always a few spot welds you can't find that make things difficult.

Thanks.
