Gasket or What Else?

So I am repacking my front hubs on my 85' CJ-7. I was wondering what people use to seal between the outer hub assembly and inner (brake rotor) hub assembly. When I took it apart, there was a thin layer of RTV silicone. And how much grease in the hub assembly when I repack it???

A light coat of silicone good for the seal..And inside the actual locking hub part is supposed to be a thin grease like white litium..Inside of the spindle hub I normally pack it as much as possible after packing the bearings..any other ?'s i got alot of pics from when i did mine..

pulling the rear seal

removing cone..same way inner and outer

using the old cone to drive in new one..setting the roter and hub in the wheel makes it much easier to work on..

packing the new beairing

I like to coat the inner cone with grease before I put in the bearing and seal

clean up the spindle,so the inner bearing slip on nicley..I put a lil grease on the spindle where the bearing sits so the bearing doesnt seize on to it like has happened on this one..

proper order of lock washers and spindle nuts

make sure after you tighten down the spindle nuts with the proper socket, use a drift to bend over the ear in te lock washer

hub innerds back together

putting a screwdriver in the rotor vent and wedging it in the caliper mount will help breaking the hub nuts free and tighning them

JCW had a nice kit that had everything from the inner seal to the outer nuts.

1982 CJ-7 2003 4.3 chevy vortec, 4L60E, Clocked Dana 300 35 x 12.5 x 15 KM2 on Cragar 399's. Vanco Brake Booster. Power steering conversion. Warn front and rear bumpers with swing away. Moser 1 piece rears. Rear OX.
