gas gage reading reverse?

when i got my 80 cj the gas gage didnt work so i diagnosed it to the factory gage being defective but since the od still worked i got an aftermarket gage installed and it works but it reads backwards as in E being full and F being empty? anyone ever had a problem like this?

Did you re install the gas tank upside down? Seriously try reversing the two wires on the top.

That would be the problem. You need for a 76 to 86 Jeep CJ.

You probably got a ford or Chevy gauge.

Just had this happen when I replaced my stock gauge with a VDO gauge. It is not a problem. The gauge is just wired in reverse from the stock setup, but it will read accurately. There is no change in wiring that you can do to remedy it. The fix: Whenever the sender finally goes out, just replace it with an early YJ sender, and it will read normally.
