I filled up a Skoda the other day with a VW group FSI petrol engine. (I was on vacation in UK) The petrol flap said "Premium unleaded only, at least 95 RON". In UK even the cheapest ($9/gallon) supermarket petrol is 95 RON.

Back home in Indonesia I fill up with $2.50 per gallon supposedly 88 octane. 20% of the goverment budget is spent subsidising my petrol. No pinging.

Gas and oil are the cheapest items you will ever put in your Jeep------
Use the best of both.
Yes, I do use prem.

Premium name brand gas is no different than regular unleaded name brand gas with the exception of a higher octane rating. The ONLY reason to use premium over regular unleaded is if you are experiencing pre-detonation. It does not give you more power. It is not the best, only different.

Pure gasoline, without ethanol, is another story.

Some name brands add detergents and such to differentiate their brand, but it all comes from the same refinery.

Having said that... It is your money, if it gives you peace of mind to buy more expensive gas, go for it.

when I got my carter carb rebuilt, rick from san diego told me run 91, well my pockets are not that deep so I was using 89 but later noticed junk building around the carb... I called rick the carb master and he said it had to do with the gas I was putting in.. I switched to 91 , no more junk .. happy camper.. I cut back on my weekly fishing trips to afford the "good gas"

Now that would be a reason to buy premium. However, its not true around here. We get 10% ethanol across all grades of gas.

Me too.

I figure the extra couple of beers worth of $$ each fill-up isn't gonna kill me.
