So I'm rebuilding my firewall plugs to the fuse block since 90% of the wires are cut flush to the block. What do you use to clean the tar like gunk out of the block without damaging it? I thought about carb or brake cleaner. Whats your take? I did a search but came up short. I have a box of the original style connectors, all but the extra wide ones for the main power supply and one other wire. Since there's only 2 wide ones I'm gonna remove the wire and carefully pry the terminal open then insert a nee wire, crimp and solder it.
Any luck on this? I'm in the same boat. Re-wiring myself and save money I hope, but definitely do it right. Any help would be appreciated, not finding much either.
most brake cleaner will harm plastics and rubbers to a degree. there is a similar product specifically for electrical connections but IDK if it would work on that tar stuff... maybe a hair drier or heat gun on low would soften it up enough to scrape it out with a small flat head screw driver or a blow gun.
From time working with two way radios I have found that this stuff is the absolute best solution for cleaning contacts and making sure they stay working.
