I was reading through my old 1984 CJ-7 owner's manual and ran across a statement that I thought would be interesting to share with the CJ community. Here it is verbatim from page 91 under the "Engine Oil" heading:
"Some oil is inevitably used in normal operation. A consumption rate of one quart (0.95 L) per 1,000 miles (1600 km) is not excessive."
That was for a brand spanking new CJ-7 in '84. The EPA, CARB, etc. would outright have a stroke if that was the case on a vehicle today. Needless to say, it makes me feel a little better about my old "earl burner" CJ. I could theoretically burn 3 quarts of oil between 3K-mile oil changes and still conform to factory specs.
