Funky hose on bottom of intake manifold

Gentlemen i would greatly appreciate your help i have a 1979 258 i was looking for the EGR valve but instead the only thing i could find was a metal ribbed hose going from the intake manifold to the exhaust manifold. I ordered several books but none describes this setup as you can imagine beeing in europe makes it difficult to find experienced CJ7 guys. Also there is a probe on the left rear of the cylinderhead right adjacent to the valvecover any idea.
Thanx for the help.

That was what I was thinking also but they did not use that setup in '79. Maybe someone put in a later mdel engine in the CJ7.

76Driver, post up a picture of your engine.

The probe you are talking about, is it on the right side as you look at the engine from the front? It could be the temperature sensor.

I hesitate to ask driver side or passenger side when asking about european jeeps. They could be switched.
