Fuel & Temp Guage

I have a 1981 CJ7. The gas & Temp gauges do not work. I just replaced the temperature sending unit & the wire seems to be okay.

Does anyone have a diagram of the back of the cluster? maybe the wires aren't on the right connector. I did find 2 wires (red & orange) that are not connected. I tried monkeying with them but I'm not sure where they go.

Thanks for your help,

Ron

Hey Ron, try here..

I'm terrible when it comes to electronics, but that's a good start.

The easiest way to check is with an ohm meter. This way you know if it's your sender/wiring or the gauge itself. The coolant sending unit and fuel tank sending unit are constantly sending out resistance (if they work) and you can test this with an ohm meter to see if they are sending anything.

John is Da' Man!

Don't ask questions until you have downloaded and printed out everything John has on his web sites, and have read it completely a dozen times...
Then you will be educated enough to ask coherent questions if you didn't find the answer outright...
