fuel guage?

First off,, finally got my jeep running again thanks for all the the help. but now I cant get m fuel guage to work.. I have a new guage, tank, sending unit and painless wiring. It use to read well below E, I switched the wires and now it reads above full and it should only be half full..any ideas?
