Fuel Gauge Reads Backward..maybe?

1979 CJ7 with 304.

I installed a VDO fuel Gauge in the dash. I verified that the gauge is appropriate for the ohm range that the CJ sender operates at. When I installed it, the tank was 1/2 full, and the gauge read 1/2 as it should.

When I filled it up, the gauge went to zero.

Has anybody seen this happen? Any clues?

Might be the right resistance range but backwards.

Chances are no.

Most likely reversing the voltage will drive the meter into the opposite direction.

You could install a YJ sender. They have the opposite resistance range.
