Front Dash Speaker

Have any of you guys replaced the 5 inch speaker in the front dash of the CJ7? I can't find a speaker that will fit properly. If you have found one please let me know where.

Hey Dan,

I used these. They were the only ones I could find that mounted flush to the dash, like the factory speaks.

Be advise, they are a 2 ohm speaker, so the head unit will need to be compatible.

I actually replaced mine with a set of 4" Infinity Reference rounds. In order to make them fit correctly, I made some adapters out of wood. Nothing to it especially since I have two left hands when it comes to fab work.
I currently have my dash off and while its off, I'm going to add a set of baffles to provide a little more protection. Those can be found on www.crutchfield.com
Hope this helps

I heard the Boss MR50W 5.25-Inch 2-Way Marine Speakers fit. I am getting them.

I bought a set of polk 5.25 speakers for my scrambler. Theyre great, fit perfect and are marine grade so theyre waterproof. I got them on sale so i think they were around 70 bucks. The tweeter sticks out a little so i threaded some nuts on first to act as backers, then put the speakers in and put nuts on behind them to tighten them up.

Thanks guys I appreciate the info. I ended up finding these. It's not a great speaker but cheap enough for now.

Why skimp out on sub par speakers? Especially the dash speakers. Drop some cash now so you don't have to worry about removing the dash again.
Just my opinion.....

x2 on this. The dash ones are the ones you hear the most and are the smaller ones as well so youre better spending a few more bucks on a speaker that wont crackle and blow out sooner. Ive made the mistake a few times before i wisened up and starting spending a little more on a quality product.

My green Jeep came with pioneer component speakers (separate tweeters). This allowed the 5.25 cones to flush mount on the dash, and they mounted the tweeter where the factory ashtray went (AC equipped Jeep, so above volt/oil gauges). I don't like where the tweeters are (thinking about flush mounting them in roll bar pad pointing down at 45 deg angle towards front seats) but the speakers sound GREAT and with the 6x9's I have in the soundwedge style boxes in back it's a pretty good setup for a Jeep. I've currently got Pioneer 5.25's in the dash of the other Jeep but had to space them out to clear the integrated tweeter so don't get any bass at all from front speakers. That Jeep has a hardtop on it so I don't have to crank the volume up so it's good enough.....

That is a JVC speaker, so it’s not bottom dollar. I don't have a great system in it now, just a JVC CD player and 2 6x9 Boss speakers in the back. I didn't have to remove the dash to get the old speaker out and I don't think I will to remove it get the new one in. Plus I only have 1 spot for a speaker and I had to buy 2, so when the old one gives out I will have a spare :-). Maybe when both of these quit on me I will get a nice set. Right now I have a lot of other stuff that needs attention before the speaker system. Thanks for all the info.

The dash speakers REALLY need baffles to help give them some presence no matter what brand you use.

My system is 70/30 faded toward my rear R Fosgate tower speakers, but the dash speakers are critical to at least creating a more centered soundstage.

Here's a picture of what I did (minus the baffle). This actually worked out because there's a tweeter attached to the front of the speaker and using a spacer made the entire speaker sit better against the rear of the dash. If I didn't make a spacer, I would have used a bunch of washers anyways.
So don't limit yourself to the factory size speaker. Do your research and get something your wallet is comfortable with, but gives you good sound. I went with Infinity because I use them in my DD and love them. That's just my personal preference.

I used a pair of Pioneer 3-ways from Walmart. I used 3/4" nylon (plastic) spacers from Ace Hardware bc the speakers had the protruding center tweeter cones. It worked great. You DO NOT HAVE TO use OEM style speakers that are flush mount.
