Flatty build ?...

ok I really have one question, but I figure I better give as much background as possible. the following is what I want to do...

I think I finally have my build plan, and the engine goes in today so its a good time to post.... I hate snags



that mixed with a

triangulated 4 link rear on Stock TJ springs,
SOA front
231 V6
T-14
D18
Power brakes
Hanging pedals
slight stretch (very slight)

pizza cutters
winch
possible PTO (if I can find one)

Stock Axles 5.38 gears
Saggy swap (manual steering temporarily)

Eventually a set of Autometers

The jeep will have a military arctic hardtop off a M38 as well.

I had a question here and edited it out... my second choice of a powerplant was not a good one... and I went back with my first choice

Why do all of this work and stay with the old axles. Find a front 30 from a narrow track CJ with disc brakes and a rear d44 from a 72-75 CJ5. Then mate the dana 300 to the t4 and go from there.

Because I want to be narrow/short and different. I want it to look somewhat stock from 50' away, then the person walks up and is like holy sh%t! Eventually i will stuff a 2.5 FI out of a YJ/TJ or the newer OHC Jeep 4 cyl in it.

I have one trail rig I am happy with, now I want to experiment.

Kinda thinking outloud here.

Can you use a bellhousing from a S10 that would bolt to the the engine and to the adaptor for a Buick V6 to bolt up to the T14/D18?

I think the current bellhousing I have will bolt to the T14 by drilling 2 holes... If it will I will be set *I think* (it basically is the s-10 housing) my T14 has the V6 adapter on it already... so I will find out.

The only bell/clutch issues I am seeing is if I have the rare T4 with the higher spline count on the input, and I think if I buy a new clutch that will not matter anyway.

My first problem was I was hoping to use the T4 instead of the T14 just for the sake of having more gears to choose from. Both are a 1:1 final drive.

This is going to be for cruising round town and maybe to play with and not worry as much about, it will easily fit on my 4 place snowmobile trailer (very heavy duty home made one), or flat tow behind my YJ or truck if needed too. I eventually will throw a restoration tub on the chassis if I like the setup

I am just trying to improve the original design without totally ruining the classic look. Like my stretch will be 3-4" max as I do NOT want a comp cut rig.

Yeah, I know they're both 1:1 final drive. I was just trying to figure the simplest way to keep the D18 and offset rear axle. Like I said, thinking, err, typing out loud.

I think a later FI 2.5L would be very cool in a flattie, esp. mated to an SM420, in a stockish configuration. Trail sleeper for sure. Maybe a 2" lift, some 34x9.5 Swampers, lockers F/R.

Oh, sorry. Back to your Flattie. I think it sounds like a fun project.

Yeah the offset rear has really limited me... So I keep the D18 as my t-case, I don't know of a whole lot of other options. -- But I promised myself I would not swap axles and I am trying not to swap rims either... I like the look of Animal, (even though its not a flattie)

The thing is I think the TJ springs may get me up too high where I HAVE to swap rims... But i want pizza cutters for sure...

It will at least have a rear locker (lincoln locker most likely)

Animal looks pretty stock until you get in. Then you realize how tall it is.

I guess Animal has influenced my ideal Jeep.

Notice my tires are relatively tall and skinny too.

Heck, w3srl's yellow flattie is a very capable rig, 31x10.5 Swampers IIRC. That with the scenario I described minus the lift. Tasty.

Ran into snags... My T14 is the V6 T14 only. Due to input length I can not use it without an adapter as well. it also has a rare (made 2 years only) 10 spline output to mate it to the D18

The T4 I have is an rare 14 spline input version found only in some 1986 CJ's,

The motor would fit nicely if I put on a small body lift.


how i end up with the 'rare' version is beyond me...
