first place to start....

Got an 84 cj7, moderate condition...engines good...where's a good place to start on restoration? Like to make it look good as well as good offroad...thanks for any posts....-adam

That's a vague question and really depends on what you want to do with it. As long as the frame is good and the drivetrain is in good shape, most people will usually start with lifting it a little and throwing on some larger tires for offroad performance. Then you could replace the two piece axles in the rear AMC 20 with one piece axles and regear (depending on what gears you already have)
If you're just wanting a good looking daily driver, then start with the body work and interior. It all just depends on what is wrong with the jeep and what you have pictured in your mind as the finished jeep (a bit of an oxymoron)

what do you plan on doing with it

yeh sorry about the vaugness....but basically what i'm looking to do is make it look like it did new....new paint job and fix rust spots....cover seats and fix interior.........but i would also like to make it more capable of being an off road jeep, such as new tires, maybe a lift stuff like that.....thanx
