Finally got pics of my new cj5

I bought in the middle of december. Havent taken a single pic until today. Its been wheeled plenty so far and has proved itself to be as good as if not better than all my freinds jeeps.

Stuff it came with: 360 3spd Dana 20, narrow axles, warn hubs,4wheel drum, manual steering. Shoddy huge shackle and raised spring mount. Soft springs and 33s. Fold n tumble rear seat.

Its pretty rust free although I did have to remake the last 6 inches of the frame out of new metal and patch a couple holes with angle iron. This is a temporary fix till I build a frame similar to the one in JPs project ground up.

The bod however is in good shape and for some reason has a faux tailgate??? The top is good and has decent bumpers although my runk front bumper and winch will be going on it soon from my old jeep.

So I have repaierd the frame/shackle mounts, made a set of 3/4in lift shackles and added the BDS 2.5 springs from my poor old 7 with all new bushing. I replaced a rusted windshield frame. lowered the drivers seat to original height. Added a ammo can console and mounted a jerry can to the fenderwell. Replaced the starter and relay with all new cables.(wheeled for a whole day with a dead started my buddys were severely annoyed). Made a spare tire mount extension for me 33s and added a highlift mount to it. Also it required a support to the bumper as it was flexing my faux tailgate too much. I added a receiver to the stock cj style hitch. Welded and bolted for insurance. I put a D ring adapter in the receiver aswell. I replaced a bearing in the steering shaft, balanced my brake shoes, and cleaned the front wheel bearings (inners were froze) and repacked them and grgreased the totally awesome warn hubs.

Future plans are a cage, 9 in rear, upgraded ignition(msd/motorcraft combo), 2 inch body lift, 3/4 inch offset spring perches f/r, and 35s, front shack reversal.

What do you all think of it so far? I will work on action shots and video more as spring comes on, but it wheels great and is hairy on the road but not much worse than my maverick is.

Sure there are detractors but these mid '70's CJ5's are my favorites I've had a '77 and nowadays a '78. One question, is your spare tire/jack mounted to a swingaway tire carrier? If not you're going to have to reinforce the mounting surface!

The parts shop that stocks part for Skylab II will not have parts for our year/model of Jeep
We cannot accurately judge the trajectory of a speeding critter (cat, dog, sasquatch)
Record heat waves and floods only occur when we visit that area

It is not and yes (which i mentioned in my long winded description) i did have to reinforce it I made a bracket out of a couple peices of
angle iron that bolt to the spacer and extends to the bumper and bolts there as well. Should do for now. Eventually I need to address the
fact that the tailgate is fake. I miss my trail seat.

By the way mines a 76 my previous cj7s were a 84 (dead behind the fence) and my long lost tetanus bucket a 78.

Originally years ago when I had my '77 I considered using a support bracket too, but then I took it a step further....





...since the back seat of the old CJ5's is useless for me and my ilk, (long of leg) the back seat was pretty usless, so I had the guys at the HVAC shop knock me together a basic box and lid w/bent edges, I then used a HD hinge, carraige bolts, hasp and bolted it in place of the back seat. Bolting the box in place of the rear seat, I then ran the bolts to the spare tire carrier through the sheet metal and to the back of the locker box. When I got 'Black Betty', the '78 I did the same and it's been handling the full size 33" spare without failure in pritnear 10 years.
