Fan shroud

I was working on my engine today and noticed that the bottom part of the fan shroud was missing, is this normal for a 304??? This can't be right!!! I am thinking the PO had a body lift on this and cut the shroud instead of remounting it...

Any thoughts?

hmmm, maybe I will be replacing the fan with the Countor electric fans sooner than I thought...

It is hard to tell from the angle of the photo, but it appears that the outer diameter of your fan does not match the inter diameter of the shroud, the fan seems too low.

Does your jeep have a Body lift? On body lifts, the engine stays at the same level while the radiator and fan shroud move up in relation to the engine and fan. Is it possible that the PO put a body lift in and removed the bottom part of the shroud to avoid hitting the fan? I am about to put on a body lift but plan to keep my shroud and move it lower to match the lift. Others who do body lifts simply remove the shroud but risk having cooling problems.

Do you have any cooling issues?

Yeah, it looks like it had a body lift on it and the guy took it off. But why wouldn't you just use the relocation brackets that come with most body lifts??? I don't know if it overheats because I am in the process of getting it running. I just wanted to confirm that the stock shroud is like all shrouds, and it basically surounds the fan.

Because they don't all come with them. Many CJ's didn't receive shrouds in the first place.

When you are almost done with an install job (like a lift) and you run into an annoying interference like that, wrapping up the job incorrectly will sometimes yield a high degree of satisfaction.
