Exhaust Question

My 1980 CJ5 shoots out a little oil and some sort of liquid when I start the Jeep. While I am driving it, oil shoots up on the back of the hard top. Is this a exhaust that needs replacing, or something in the engine?

sounds like something engine to me, It doesnt matter how crappy your exhaust is, there is no reason oil should be in there. If its a fine oil mist thats on the back of the jeep. look at tranny, and oil leaks on the bottom of the engine.

It's water mixed with exhaust ...it's not oil.
Usually an indication you ran rich or are running rich.

Is it an oily spray, or does it have anti-freeze in it? You really need to crawl under there and look where the leak is coming from. If it is definetely coming from the exhaust, you need to see if it is a fine mist (like a rich carb issue), or if it is oil. How many miles on the motor?

I am not sure how many miles on the motor. I would say quite a few. It was replaced in 99. That was going to be my next question. I have no idea what year the motor is. How would I find this out. Is it enscribed on the motor somewhere? I have the installed paper work for the motor, but no year of the engine. I certainly will have to climb under the jeep and check things out. I do know that there is quite a bit of oil around the engine block and the manifold. MAybe that would have something to do with my leak. I apprecaite all the help. I will take any advice I can get.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply. If this is the case, what are my next steps to take care of this issue? Thanks for any and all help.
Cheers
