Engine swap

Guys I'm thinking about doing a complete engine swap and saving my Merc diesel for a rat rod build. So I'm running a 304 in a 78 cj7 with the th400 quadra trac. I'n your opinion what would be the best engine to swap into my cj? When I say best I mean the least I'd have to change on my jeep to make it work. Don't want to do any heavy mods just something simple and easy. Getting lazy in my old age......

I am confused. what does the Mercedes engine have anything to do with it?

If you are pulling the 304, the easiest most straight forward swap would be another amc v8

Sorry my A. D. D. kicked in for a second...in a earlier thread I had mentioned putting in a Mercedes diesel I have, but have since decided to do something else with it. Sorry for the confusion

ok, well if the 304 is running well, why not keep it? If not, all amc v8's are the same on the outside as far as dimensions, mounting, and accessories.

It's starting to use a good bit of oil. I'll probably just pull it and rebuild it and do a few upgrades along the way
