Engine question

I seem to have found a 304 V8 engine for $100. My question is will it fit into my 76 CJ7 that currently holds a 232 i6? I understand in theory it will, but do I need to make modifications to make this happen?

I don't have all the answers here, but I suggest a "search" for "engine swap". There' a bunch written about it and I think it was basically possible but a ton of headache and expense.

Yes the motor mounts will have to be changed but like has been said there are many threads on this but yes it can be done pretty easy just swapping parts.

Yes it came stock in the Cj7 and CJ6 in 76 as a option. All you need is the Engine mounts/Radiator/ ans small parts from another CJ with the 304. Everything is a Bolt up.

When engine mounts are mentioned, whats meant are frame mounts, and, only the frame mount on the passenger side needs changed. Motor mounts (the ones that bolt to the block) will need to be for a AMC V8 .

The I6 radiator will work, but, it's probably just a 2 core, so a 3 core will likely be needed, to keep the V8 from overheating.

Depending on what ignition (distributor) and the ignition system, both engines have, a change may be necessary.
