Is it ok to take the ole CJ to the locate do it yourself carwash and spray the crap out of the engine with degreaser, and then rinse it? Since its carburated thought it might not be a good idea, but decided to ask.
Just dont want to screw it up and be stuck there for hours waiting on it to dry out or something.
Take a can of WD40 with you just in case.. you can use it to displace water in the dizzy cap if you accidently get water in it.. I also like using stuff like Super Clean or Purple Power to degrease my engines
On a more serious note, like BESRK, I have found Castrol Super Clean to be very effective. Last year as I was rebuilding a T-177 tranny, I struggled to clean off 20 years of gear oil and dirt that had accumulated on the trans case. I scraped the bulky stuff off with a putty knife and mineral spirits but there was still a lot of the crud stuck to the case. Out of frustration, I put the case in a laundry tub and brushed Super Clean on it undilluted and let it sit for 10 minutes or so then hit it with hot water. The greasy mud came right off. A couple repeat applications later and the case was looking like new.
Man you guys! You spend to much money on cleaning fluids.
I found that oven cleaner works the best. Spray it on the engine/trans/tc/etc before you leave the house and once you get to the carwash give it another shot, then just rinse her off.
Just don't admit to the missing oven cleaner when the wife goes looking for it. WAIT!!! What I'm I talikng about, I have never seen my wife clean an oven since I've known her.
Never thought about oven cleaner, dawgates. I know that's some mean stuff. Used to use it to remove old finish from gunstocks. Haven't priced oven cleaner lately but Wal-Mart had jugs of Super Clean for $6.00 last week. Thought that was a pretty good price.
Be careful with the oven cleaner. I used it to clean my oil pan when I did the rear main seal. It takes the paint right off along with the grease.
