Electrical fire

Just experienced my first electrical fire. Scared the **** outta me! Luckily I was still in the driveway warming up and sitting in the Jeep when smoke started ROLLING out from the defroster vents and under the dash.
I worked under the dash for almost an hour tracing burnt wires WAY back through the harness to a factory 2-into-4 connection for power leads to the dash gauges. Got everything disconnected and wires secured now.
Think I need a beer!

Glad to hear you caught it.

Did you find out if the fuses were incorrectly rated or was it a PO "upgrade"? Do you have the fusible links still?

I have battery isolators on my Jeeps and the isolator key is on a cord from the ignition key. When I am not in the Jeep there is no chance of an electrical fire. Sounds smug but I leave my Jeeps for days sometimes and I just want them to start.
