EGR Tube Won't Fit, P/N J3241722

I got the part thru dealer but it's not even close to fitting, bought a new stock exhaust manifold, so something's wrong with one of them... anybody have to "tweak" their OEM tube to fit?

It'll line up on the exhaust manifold about 3/4" off the center where it should be, that's alot more than "tweaking" to get it to fit. Tried installing it both ways, only one way comes close.

P/N shows J3237776, original CJ p/n crosses to J3241722, they are said to be the same part.

I'm not sure what "tube" you are talking about.

Pics of the part would help.

Your link doesn't show anything useful. Could you maybe have a YJ one? Don't know if there is any difference, but...

Link intended to show the 2 p/ns cross-reference pedigree... the J3241722 is a YJ #, but apparently it is the same thing as the old CJ #J3237776

Roy,

OK, now I'm with you.

Unfortunately, I never had to mess with that tube on my 258, so I got nuttin' for ya. Sorry.

That EGR tube came in two styles. One was a rigid type that is more difficult to install and a later version was made like a flexible gas pipe so to speak. The later version had the ability to flex more during the heat and cool cycles plus the aluminum intake manifold would expand and contract more than the exhaust manifold.

I don't know where you could get either one but it is advisable to use a copper based anti-seize compound on the threads before installing.

If you order a new one from Chrysler today it will be the rigid type. I installed a new one on my engine when I gave it a cosmetic makeover.

What I found you have to do is install the tube finger tight to the manifolds BEFORE you attach the manifolds to the engine. Perhaps if you loosen the bolts up it might give you enough wiggle room to work with without having to take the manifolds off the engine entirely.

Here's the pic, click-free. The part in question is shown encircled in a thin red line:

Thx, that helps. Didn't want to get out the torch prematurely ...
