i'm having a problem removing the steering box on a 65 cj5. any tips, tricks, or help would be appreciated. I have a manuel but it only covers later models than mine.

Remove draglink that goes to the bellcrank
Remove steering wheel and turn signal assembly
Unbolt column from dash and floor
Unbolt steering box from frame and slide it down
Also the horn wire on the box if it is still there

Happy wrenching

Yes. All CJ's 71 & older use a Ross steering box which is integral with the steering column. This is assuming that it's stock. Lots of early Jeeps have steering conversions...

Soak the steering wheel splines with penetrating oil. That is the hardest part of the hole disassembly, getting the steering wheel off.

Got it out and to Precision Drive Line in Phoenix. They had it rebuilt in a couple of days. Will let you know how it works after I get it back in and drive it some.
