Early CJ5 seats

I am trying to put some authentic seats in my 56 CJ5 but can't seem to find any place that sells them. Right now I have the seats that came with it when I purchased the jeep which I think cam out of a Bass boat. Also, any ideas where the single reverse light is supposed to be mounted? Thanks a lot everyone!

Can't help you on the seats, but if yours has the 3spd stick, I don't think there IS a reverse light. My 1974 didn't have it and neither does my 1955. The transmissions don't even have a place for the reverse switch in them. This is on the T-90.

There are aftermarket low back seats available, but AFAIK no one makes one that folds for the passenger side. You'd have no access to the tool box or back seat. If you want the stock type seats you'll have to find some old ones & recover them.

I bought Best Top low back seats for my '68 CJ5. The passenger seat doesn't fold but I can still get access to the tool box with it flipped forward. The seats aren't exactly original but they're better than the big, funky looking high back seats that the PO had in it. I had to fabricate "new" brackets out of EMT (tubing) because the PO had thrown the old ones away.

Thanks for tips everyone. That makes sense about the reverse light for the T90 transmission. I was just making sure it just isn't some weird modification the PO made.

Sorry, I gave you the wrong info. Those are Smittybilt seats. I bought them on Ebay at:

I had Best Top seats on my old CJ. I think I liked the Best Top seats a little better. They were more expensive but I liked them better.

I've had both (I think Rugged Ridge and Smittybilt are one in the same) and I too like the Bestop seats better. I'm 5'11" and 180lbs. I felt like I was going to slide off the Rugged Ridge seats and I sit "in" the Bestop seats a little bit.
